Career Skills

Mayor Tom Leppert's Intern Fellows Program
Imagine getting paid to do a summer internship at a Fortune 500 corporation or respected non-profit in Dallas. Besides gaining valuable work experience, students make significant contacts with top executives. From career mentoring to attending business functions, this is definitely not the typical summer job.

  Job Readiness Seminars

These after-school sessions, presented by the HEAs, focus on the basics of making it in the job world.

Typical Seminar Themes

How to Dress
This seminar shows kids in concrete terms why what you wear makes a difference.

How to Interview
Through mock interviews and discussions, students learn the speech patterns, mannerisms, and body language that can either help or hinder their chances of landing a job.

Professionalism
This session focuses on real life basics such as attendance, planning, communication, and respect.

Filling Out a Job Application
Students fill out actual job applications and get advice and guidance from the HEAs.

Resume Writing From applying for internships to getting into the college of your choice to landing a great job, writing a killer resume pays big. Throughout the program, students spend time putting together and polishing their resumes with the help of HEAs, mentors and other professional volunteers.
