EIF students are predominantly minority and economically disadvantaged. The majority of these students will be first-generation college students, and many will be the first in their families to graduate from high school. These students have overcome significant challenges and adversities to achieve their goals, and they consistently demonstrate their resilience and determination. EIF students go beyond simply attending school every day; they are immersed in extra-curricular activities, community service, school leadership positions, and academic clubs. Many balance part time and full time work to support their families with a rigorous schedule of advanced placement classes. Their unique academic gifts have earned them higher GPAs and standardized test scores than their same grade peers.
