Who We Serve

Education is Freedom (EIF) removes the economic obstacles to higher education by providing college scholarships to young people who are overlooked by traditional scholarship programs.

EIF’s National Scholarship Program serves U.S. high school seniors or graduates, age 24 and under, who plan to enroll for the first time in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States.

Individuals must have been a U.S. resident at least one year at the time of application and have a cumulative high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and above and demonstrate financial need.

In 2003, EIF launched the Dallas Model in the Dallas Independent School District (DISD).  The overall objective of the Dallas Model is to insure the success of Dallas high school students while creating a program for education revitalization that can be replicated in other at-risk districts across the nation.  The Dallas Model program currently serves 1,200 at-risk students from three Dallas high schools and has graduated more than 250 students to date.

The Dallas Model Program focuses on three main goals: preventing low-income students from dropping out of high school; helping students prepare for college and navigating the college entrance process; and providing “close the gap” scholarship funds to supplement other financial aid these students qualify for and otherwise would not receive without our assistance for tuition and fees.

Education is Freedom has Higher Education Advisors that work with at-risk teens on several levels, including life skills classes to improve their time management, study, and work skills; personal mentoring to motivate them to stay in school and succeed; and assistance in planning their college careers.  Such assistance takes many forms, such as helping students prepare for the SAT, encouraging them to research their college options, and walking them through the college entrance and financial aid application processes.
