Mr. Biegler retired as Vice Chairman of TXU Corp. in December 2001. He previously served as president and chief operating officer of TXU Corp. beginning in August, 1997 when TXU (at that time known as Texas Utilities) and ENSERCH Corporation merged.
A 39-year veteran in the energy industry, Mr. Biegler has held management positions in the energy industry segments of exploration and production, oilfield services, natural gas pipeline, electric and gas distribution utility, and electric power generation.
Mr. Biegler serves as a director of Trinity Industries, Inc., Dynegy, Austin Industries, and on the J.P. Morgan Chase Dallas Regional Advisory Board.
Mr. Biegler was graduated from St. Mary's University in San Antonio in 1968 with a bachelor of science degree in physics. He completed Harvard University's advanced management program in 1979.
Mr. Biegler has served in a number of energy industry positions, including as a member of the National Petroleum Council and Chairman of the American Gas Association and the Southern Gas Association. Until just recently, he served as Chairman of the American Gas Foundation.
He is also active in civic and charitable causes in the Dallas area. Currently he serves as Chairman of the Old Red Foundation and Children’s Health Services of Texas. Until just recently, he served as Chairman of Children’s Medical Center of Dallas and President of the Circle Ten Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He has previously chaired the Central Dallas Association, Dallas Together Forum, the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce, the Dallas Citizens Council, the American Red Cross Dallas Area Chapter, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and the Dallas Zoological Society. He serves currently as a trustee or Director of Dallas Center for the Performing Arts and Southwestern Medical Foundation. In May 2006, Mr. Biegler was elected as Chairman of Education is Freedom.
